Our Fish Creek Field trip is tomorrow.  THANK YOU in advance to those parents who have volunteered their time to support us on this learning experience. Discuss with a family member what or who you think you might choose for your 'Perspective' assignment at Fish Creek.  Be sure to explain what perspective means in your own words and why you made your choice.

Reminder:
Bring a water bottle, snacks and lunch
Wear appropriate footwear for walking outside
Dress for the weather in layers
We leave at 9:00 and return around 2:45.

We have a busy week in front of us!  We have a field trip to Fish Creek park on Wednesday, October 1.  We will be sharing our Digital Citizenship Projects and working on our Weather Watch Projects. We will also begin our Vista Heights 50th Birthday learning.  The Birthday celebration is next week on Thursday, October 9 in the afternoon.  We will keep you posted on the time. Please ask a family member what they know about the Vista Heights area and the changes it has been through over the past 50 years.  Be  prepared to share with the class.

Reminder: 
HELP!  We need 3 volunteers by tomorrow morning (Tuesday, Sept. 30) or we will not be able to go.  Please let Mrs. Calvert or Ms. Makowski know if your parent can come and support our learning.

Our Vista Heights Virtue Activity Day was a huge success! Share with a family member the many stations that you visited this afternoon. How did the stations demonstrate a virtue? Do you think each station demonstrated more than one virtue?

Reflect on which virtue you think you are strongest at, and think of examples of how you show excellence. Think about which virtue you would like to work on, and why. Be prepared to complete a writing assignment on the virtues tomorrow in class.

Thank you to the Calgary Zoo for coming to our school for their Wild About Weeding program today! What did you learn during these activities? Do you think it is important to have programs like Wild About Weeding visit schools? Why or why not? Be prepared to share your ideas with the class tomorrow.

We are excited to be going on a field trip to Fish Creek Park on Wednesday October 1! Field trip permission forms are being sent home today. Please have your parents sign these and return them to school.

- Vista Heights Virtue Activity Day is tomorrow afternoon! Please remember to dress for the weather (hat, sunscreen, dress in layers), wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle.

Great job today working on your Digital Citizenship Projects and your Weather Watch Projects! You have demonstrated excellent work in staying organized and managing your time. Remember, your Digital Citizenship Projects are due on Friday September 26. If you feel you will be unable to finish this project by Friday, please see Ms. Makowski or Mrs. Calvert to discuss your project.

Reflect on our virtue for the month of September: cooperation. Think of how you have shown cooperation so far this year. How do we cooperate at school? During recess? In the community? Be prepared to share your ideas with the class tomorrow.

Mrs. Calvert's Math Group: Please finish writing out your 5 numbers using the standard form and number words.

Terrific job this week reflecting on yourself as a learner, and the many strengths you bring to our classroom community! Mrs. Calvert and Ms. Makowski are excited to introduce new projects next week, and to begin our learning journey in Math.

Please share with a family member the current events projects you will be responsible for this year. The rubric and project criteria for this assignment are posted in the D2L dropbox. Suggested websites for current events are listed as links on our blog. Please begin to think about what current event you would like to share with the class, what presentation tool you will be using, and why your topic is newsworthy.

Excellent work today creating your Shape Wordles! Ms. Makowski and Mrs. Calvert are excited to be working with a group of such talented and unique students in our classes. 

Please show your parents how to log in to D2L, and share with them the Shape Wordle website from today's task. We will be using this program for future projects and assignments throughout the year. Please let Mrs. Calvert or Ms. Makowski know if you are unable to log in to D2L from home.

Terrific work today using your Visual/Spatial Smarts to design a Pablo Picasso inspired self-portrait. Share with family member what you learned about Pablo Picasso and how you used pastels for this art project. Explain what cubism means, and how you applied patterns and colors to your portrait.

Thank you for a fabulous first week back!

We have been busy this week beginning our learning journey together. Share with family member the design you created for your Sketch Journal, and how we will be using these journals as a representation of your learning this year. Which images are you using to represent you as a learner? Why did you choose these images, and how are they a metaphor for your learning? Be prepared to share with the class.

Our school will be studying the virtues again this year! Make a prediction for what the virtue for the month of September is!

- Keep an eye for pictures and photos for your Sketch Journals. We will continue this art project next week!

Welcome Division 2 Leaders of Learning (LOL)!

Our names are Mrs. Calvert and Ms. Makowski and we are excited to be your teacher team this year. We are looking forward to the opportunity to celebrate our learning successes together! At Vista Heights our school goal to continue to be environmentally aware, so we will be using a daily grade 4/5/6 blog. It is your responsibility to check our blog daily at home, and inform your parents/guardians of important information and events happening at our school. The blog will also post your homework assignments and project deadlines.

For your first homework assignment, please share with a family member what you need to be successful in your learning journey this year. Explain what you learned about yourself and our class in our Compass Points activity. 

Reminder: Back to school information packages were sent home today. Please give these to your parents, and return completed forms to school.
